The police suspect that Dae-Soo committed the murder because his blood was found at the crime scene. Shocked by this news, Dae-su examines his hand and finds a mark from a syringe needle. Dae-Su tries to commit suicide, but fails. Time passes, and he begins to write down all his actions that could cause suffering or pain to other people. He mutters, "I've hurt too many people... And I'm sure the person who imprisoned me here and killed my wife is one of them." He vows to take revenge on the person who ruined his happy life. When Dae-soo's entire body becomes covered in tattoos that tell the length of his imprisonment, a sleeping gas is released into the room and he falls asleep...
