In the center of the picture "8 1/2" (the name means the serial number of this tape in the director's work) is a hero close to Fellini, to some extent his cinematic "double". He is an Italian film director who is preparing for the shooting of a new picture. The script is written. Huge scenery was built. It seems that everything is just waiting for the start of filming. But Fellini finds his hero at a moment of spiritual crisis, doubts, loss of faith and purpose - it seems not only in creativity, but also in life itself. Apparently, Fellini himself once experienced something similar, so he showed this condition on the screen with a charming expression, in completed cinematic forms.
